Nestled along the shores of Lake Byllesby Reservoir, the largest lake in southern Dakota County, Lake Byllesby Campground offers many lakeside campsites and an array of family activities for a fun-filled camping vacation.

Lake Byllesby Campground is located in the scenic Cannon River Valley close to the 26-mile Cannon Valley Trail within Lake Byllesby Regional Park.

Use Harry Avenue for ​access to park

Park visitors and campers should access Lake Byllesby Regional Park using Harry Avenue. Gerlach Way (from 295th Street) is not a through road and does not have clearance for RVs and trailers.​

  • Non-refundable reservation fee per site per reservation: $8
  • Water and ​electric (30/50 amp) sites: $39 per night
  • Standard electric (30/50 amp) sites: $35​​ per night
  • Firewood: $7.50 (tax included) per bundle
  • Dump station: $15​ for non-guests only​

Occupancy policy

Dakota County Parks reserves the right to cancel a campsite reservation in the event the reserved campsite is not occupied by 2 p.m. on the second day of the reservation. Customer must contact campground office about a late arrival. Unoccupied campsites subject to cancellation will not receive a refund.​​

Cancellation policy​

  • Cancellation received more than 48 hours in advance of scheduled arrival date will receive a refund minus the $8 reservation fee.
  • Cancellations received less than 48 hours prior to scheduled arrival are nonrefundable​.​
  • No refunds for weather-related cancellations.

Maximum six people per campsite

  • One RV or motorized camping unit per water and electric site.
    • A tent with RV is permitted on sites #9-17 and #47-83
    • No tents on sites #1-8 and #18-​46
  • One RV or motorized camping unit or two tents per standard electric site.

Information need​ed to comple​te a reservation:

  • License plate information for the primary vehicle or RV
  • Number of people staying at campsite (maximum of six per site)
  • RV length, if applicable. RV length cannot be longer than the maximum listed for the site. RV sites are allowed one tow or towed vehicle that must be on the parking pad. ​

Reservations must be made online. No email or walk-in requests outside of campground season.​

Dakota County Parks established these campground rules to help make your stay a safe and pleasant experience.

The campgrounds are governed by County Ordinance 107 - Park Use and patrolled by the Parks, Lakes and Trails unit of the Dakota County Sheriff's Office. 

​Check in/check out​

  • All campers must have a reservation and check in at the campground office upon arrival, prior to going to their campsite. 
  • Check in time is after 2 p.m. on the first day registered.
  • Check out time is noon on the last day registered. Campsite must be clean and clear of all items and vehicles prior to check out. Failure to leave a site by scheduled check out time may result in towing or citation.

Campsite rules

  • Camping is allowed in designated sites only.
  • There is a maximum of six people per campsite.
  • All sites have 60-foot paved parking pads. RVs and all vehicles must fit on the parking pad.
  • Sites #1–8 and #18–46 do not allow tents. One RV or motorized camping unit per site.
  • Sites #9–​17 and #47–83: Two tents per site or one RV and one tent.
  • Pull through sites are one-way only.
  • The total RV or camping unit length, plus tow or towed vehicle (if applicable), must fit on the parking pad for the campsite reserved.
  • The reservation will be canceled without a refund if the total length of the RV or camping unit, plus tow or towed vehicle (if applicable), exceeds the allowed length for the campsite reserved.
  • There is no additional overnight parking space available in the campground outside of the reserved campsite for a tow or towed vehicle.
  • Quiet hours: 10 p.m.–8 a.m. No generator use permitted during quiet hours.
  • Fires are allowed in grills and fire rings only. See firewood restrictions. 
  • There is a two-night minimum stay on weekends, and a three-night minimum stay on Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends.​

Pets rules

Pets must be on a static leash not more than 6 feet long.

Pet owners must carry and use an appropriate device for cleaning up pet feces and disposing of feces in a sanitary manner.

Pets must not be tethered to any tree, plant, building or park equipment.

Visitors

All visitors must register and obtain a visitor pass. Visitors must leave the campground by 10 p.m.

Rental to minors

Minors (under 18 years of age) are not allowed to rent a campsite. Campers under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Stay limit

Dakota County does not offer long-term camping rentals. ​There is a 14-day maximum camping limit in any 30-day period in the Dakota County Parks Campgrounds.

Activities not permitted

  • Cutting trees or shrubs or bringing in logs from the woods.
  • Disturbing wildlife or defacing park property.
  • All-terrain vehicles and golf carts operating on park property.
  • Controlled substances, hard liquor and keg beer.
  • Cleaning fish, washing dishes or pets in buildings.
  • Discharge of waste water onto park property.
  • Washing of vehicles or RVs.
  • Inflatable pools, toys and bounce houses.
  • Fireworks or sparklers of any kind.
  • Burning ​litter or trash.​

For the health and enjoyment of all park users, smoking of any kind (including vaping) on county park property and recreational facilities is prohibited, except in parking lots, on roadways and on individually rented campsites.
