Five year-round camper cabins at Whitetail Woods Regional Park let you experience the best camping has to offer — time in nature, cooking outdoors, enjoying a bonfire — and a more comfortable overnight experience. Up to six people can stay in each cabin.

Cabin information

Enjoy the peace and quiet of a wooded setting in the park's original three camper cabins. The cabins are perched among tall pines and elevated above the ground with an accessible entry. Spot birds and wildlife from the cabin deck.​

  • Bunk bed with full-size over full-size beds with mattresses — top bunk includes railing
  • Pull-out queen-sized sleeper sofa with mattress — bedding and linens not provided
  • Hammock connections on deck

  • Two folding chairs (stored behind counter)
  • Two Adirondack deck chairs
  • Electricity, air conditioning, ​heat, overhead lighting and outlets
  • High speed Wi-Fi  internet
  • Ceiling fan

  • Picnic table
  • Fire ring (firewood restrictions) - firewood available for purchase at the Lebanon Hills Visitor Center. Firewood can also be purchased from DNR-approved vendors.

Take in the sweeping prairie vista from the park's two newest cabins. Located at the edge of a restored prairie, these cabins are designed to blend into the landscape while offering a spacious layout and expansive views of the Vermillion River Valley from each cabin's deck and outdoor gathering space.

6 people per cabin

Parking is free. Vehicles must be parked in the designated camper cabin parking lot. Two vehicles per cabin​.​

The camper cabins are governed by County Ordinance 107 - Park Use and patrolled by the Parks, Lakes and Trails unit of the Dakota County Sheriff's Office.

To make your stay a safe and pleasant experience:  

Cabin rules

Cooking is not permitted inside the cabins, but use of crockpots and coffee pots are permitted. These items need to be plugged directly into an outlet. Use of multiplug adapters or extension cords with these items are not permitted.

Pets are not allowed inside the cabin.

Tents and campers are not permitted in the camper cabin area or the park.

Alcohol and controlled substances

Beer, wine, ciders, flavored alcoholic beverages, and other single-serving, prepackaged beverages are permitted in the cabins and cabin area. Kegs,  barrels or more than a single case of 24 prepackaged, single-serving beverages are not permitted in the park.

Tobacco​

Smoking, e-cigarettes and tobacco use is not allowed in the cabins, on the cabin decks, in the fire ring/picnic table areas or in the restroom and shower building. Smoking is allowed in the parking lot only.

Quiet hours

Quiet hours are scheduled from 10 p.m.–8 a.m.

Parking

Cars must park in the designated parking lot. Each cabin will have one designated parking space.

Visitors

Visitors must leave the park by 10 p.m. The maximum capacity per cabin at any time is six people.

Rental to minors

Minors (under 18 years of age) are not allowed to rent a cabin. Campers under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian per cabin.

Firewood

Fires are allowed in grills and fire rings only. Firewood is available for purchase at the Lebanon Hills Visitor Center rental office, open daily 9 a.m.-5 p.m. You can also purchase from an approved DNR vendor. See firewood restrictions for details. 

Activities not permitted
  • Cutting trees or shrubs or bringing in logs from the woods
  • Disturbing wildlife or defacing park property
  • Cleaning fish and washing dishes in buildings
  • Fireworks
  • Burning​ litter or trash

Reservation information

  • Non-refundable reservation fee per site per reservation: $8
  • Camper cabin: $98​​ per night

  • Reservations must be made online
  • Reservations must be made at least two days in advance.
  • Reservations can be made up to 120 days in advance.
  • Same day reservations are not accepted.
  • Maximum length of stay is three nights per reservation and six total nights per month.​
  • On the first day a reservation date is available, reservations open at 7 a.m.
  • Thanksgiving requires three-night booking. Christmas and New Year's Day require two-night booking.

Payment policy

Full payment is due at booking. Visa, MasterCard and Discover accepted.

Over-the​-phone changes and cancellations

Cancellation policy

  • Cancellations received eight days or more in advance of arrival date will receive a refund minus the $8 reservation fee.
  • Cancellations received seven days or less in advance are nonrefundable.
  • No refunds for weather-related cancellations.
  • Date changes will be considered a cancellation and the cancellation policy applies. 
  • The non​refundable reservation fee will be charged on a date or cabin changes. 

T​he cabins have planned closures in spring and fall for maintenance and seasonal turnover. Planned closures for 2026 are April 5-17 and Nov. 1-13.

​Check-in

Access to the cabins is by barcode scanner. Rental customers will receive a barcode via email with their booking confirmation. ​You can print the code or use it from your smartphone.

Access to the cabin begins at 3 p.m. on the day of arrival. The barcode needs to be scanned anytime you access the cabin. Like a hotel, the door will lock behind you when you leave.

Check-out

Check-out time is 11 a.m.​ on the date of your depart​ure. Access codes will stop working at 11 a.m. Cabins should be in a clean state.  Basic cleaning supplies provided in the cabins, including:

  • Paper towels
  • Multi-surface cleaner
  • Broom 

Extra fee may apply for excessive cleaning time.  Permit holder responsible for any property damage.

Upon departure, verify door is fully closed and locked behind you. 

Recycling in the camper cabins

Recycling and waste information, along with bags, provided in the cabin. Low-waste camping is a priority for Dakota County campgrounds. Remove all recycling and trash before check-out.
