Mississippi River Greenway, Pine Bend Bluffs to 117th Street E.

County Project 97-238

The Mississippi River Greenway between Pine Bend Bluffs and 117th Street E. in Inver Grove Heights has been closed since September 2025. This is due to heavy rainfall washing out a large section of the slope next to the trail.

The county has completed soil studies, explored different repair options and reviewed construction methods and costs. We are working with the nearby property owner to make sure we can safely access the site. We are now finishing design and getting ready to put the project out for construction bids this fall.

Project overview

The project components include:

  • Truck delivery of fill material and excavation equipment to rebuild the washed‑out area
  • Removal of old concrete footings that are no longer needed
  • Removal of trees to allow access to the site
  • Repairs to the chain‑link fence, parking lot lights and curb
  • Repairs to the stormwater basin and about 100 feet of concrete pipe
  • Repairs to the asphalt trail
  • Planting native vegetation, including perennial plants and trees
