Child Support Safety Concerns

The county can help if you're worried about your safety due to a child support case. Share your concerns with your child support worker or call 651-554-5611.

Applying for public assistance

If you receive public assistance with children, a child support case could open. If you have safety concerns about having an open child support case, you can make a Good Cause claim. Discuss this with your financial or child support worker.

If a claim is approved, the county will close the child support case. The county could review your claim in the future.

Protecting your address and location

There are many ways to conceal your physical address if you're concerned for your safety.

Provide alternative address

You can provide an alternative address, so you feel safe receiving mail from child support and the court.  Examples: P.O. box, or a friend or family address.

Enroll in Safe at Home Services

The Minnesota Secretary of State offers Safe at Home Confidentiality Services. This helps people who fear for their safety to maintain a confidential address. Go to the Secretary of State website to enroll.

Notify your worker if you are in the Safe at Home program.

Keep address confidential in court actions

Sometimes, your address can be kept confidential in child support legal documents.  If you want to learn more this option, contact your child support worker or call 651-554-5611.
