County Road 42 at Garrett Avenue and Pilot Knob Road Improvements
County Projects 42-177 and 31-118
Dakota County and the City of Apple Valley are addressing two projects on Pilot Knob Road (County Road 31) and along 150th Street (County Road 42).
The first project addresses safety concerns at Pilot Knob Road (County Road 31) and Upper 147th Street West intersection. The project will install a ¾-turn center median along Pilot Knob Road. This will restrict the traffic on Upper 147th Street to right in and right out. New turn lanes will also be installed, improving sight distances for opposing left turning vehicles.
The second project replaces two aging traffic signal systems on 150th Street West (County Road 42) at Garrett Avenue and Pilot Knob Road. The work at Garrett Avenue will also include installing designated left and right turn lanes, curb ramps and audible push buttons and countdown timers for pedestrians. The work at Pilot Knob Road (County Road 31) will also include pedestrian refuge island, curb ramps and audible push buttons and count down timers for pedestrians.
Road closures and detours
The closure at Garrett Avenue and County Road 42 is expected to be lifted on Monday, Aug. 17 after the signal is activated.
