The importance of saf​e sleep for infants

State law requires licensed child care providers to:

  • Place an infant on their back to sleep in an approved crib for every sleep.
  • Place infant on a firm mattress with a tight-fitting sheet, with nothing else in the crib.
  • Obtain annual Sudden Unexpected Infant Death (SUID) training for self and all substitutes, assistants and helpers.
  • Conduct monthly crib inspections and annual recall checks.

Training requir​ements​

The Minnesota Department of Children, Youth, and Families requires trainings for licensure and to continue providing child care.

New applicants must complete mandatory pre-service training prior to licensure. Current license holders and those who work within a child care program must have a total of 16 hours of training each calendar year.
