Child Care

The county handles licensing in-home family child cares. In-home licensed child cares provide care for children from more than one family.

Basic steps to become a licensed provider include:

  • Application
  • Background studies
  • Orientation
  • Child care training
  • Home inspection

The county investigates licensing complaints. We also answer parent and child care provider questions about the licensing process.

The county works closely with the Minnesota Department of Children Youth and Families, (DCYF). DCYF issues all annual provider licenses and licensing actions. DCYF also dictates the licensing process outlined in Minnesota Statute 145B and State Rule 9502.
