Foster Care

Dakota County Social Services licenses, monitors and supports foster homes to be used by Dakota County children and adults in need of placement. Currently, Dakota County serves about 1,400 children and adults living in foster homes.

Top areas of need

For child foster care, the greatest areas of need are:

• Teenagers
• Boys age 12-​14 
• Large sibling groups of three of more

For adult foster care, the greatest areas of need are for:

• Seniors age 65 and older in accessible homes
• ​Individuals who are not accessing services or funding through disability waivers
