Pay Property Taxes
To find out how much you owe in property taxes, go to the Property Information Search and enter your house number only.
You have many different options for paying your property taxes. It is the responsibility of the property owner to pay taxes by the due date no matter the payment method.
Depending on the type of property, taxes are due on different dates.

Payment methods
Make a single, non-recurring online payment using the Paymentus automated system by:
- Credit or debit card — only Discover, MasterCard or Visa are accepted (2.29-percent convenience fee)
- Visa Debit Program ($2.95 convenience fee)
- Electronic transfer from bank account, checking or savings ($0.35 convenience fee)
You can pay:
- Current year property taxes March through December
- Prior year property taxes (delinquent, contracts) any time of the year
- Prepaid future taxes (up to $100,000 per transaction) mid-November through February
- Future Special Assessment January through December (Payment must be paid in full, or payment will be returned)
A submission is not complete until you receive an emailed receipt. Your email address is only used for communications associated with your payment.

By phone payments can be made using:

Your payment is not complete until a confirmation number is received.
Payments can be made in person at the following Dakota County buildings. All locations are open 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

- Northern Service Center, West St. Paul
- Western Service Center, Apple Valley
Cash, check and credit card accepted (Discover, MasterCard or Visa). There is a 2.49-percent convenience fee for credit card use in person.

Your payment must be postmarked on or before the due date or penalties will apply.
A free program offered by Dakota County that allows taxpayers to enroll to have an automatic, recurring payment made on the due date. Payment is withdrawn from your authorized bank account.
Eligibility requirements
- An application must be completed 30 days before a tax due date
- Property taxes can't be paid by your mortgage company (check for a Pay Code on the tax statement stub)
- No delinquent or unpaid property taxes (includes being on-time for current year)
Signing up for direct payment (auto payment)
You will need the following information to apply:
- Banking information (financial institution routing number and checking/savings account number)
- Property Identification Numbers
- Email address (only used for communicating program details)
After submitting your authorization form, you will receive:
- An automated email confirming the application has been submitted.
- If approved, taxation staff will send a one-time email confirming your enrollment in the Direct Payment program.
Updating your enrollment
To update your bank account or other information, please submit a new authorization form.
Payment schedule
Withdrawals from authorized bank accounts occur on the following due dates based on the classification of the property:
- May 15 for first half taxes (real estate, personal and agricultural property)
- Aug. 31 for first half taxes (manufactured homes)
- Oct. 15 for second half taxes (real estate and personal property)
- Nov. 15 for second half taxes (agricultural property and manufactured homes)
If the dates fall on a weekend or bank holiday, Dakota County will debit your account on the next business day. Your bank statement acts as proof of payment.
The county will notify you two weeks before a scheduled account withdrawal using the email address given. Contact 651-438-4576 if you do not receive the email at least 10 days before a scheduled payment withdrawal.
Canceling your enrollment
To stop making automatic payments, submit the request electronically. The request must be submitted 15 days before the tax due date.
