3.2% Malt Liquor License

"3.2-percent malt liquor" is defined as malt liquor containing no more than 3.2 percent alcohol by weight.

A 3.2-percent malt liquor license is needed for:

  • On-sale, where the 3.2-percent malt liquor is consumed on the premises where it is sold,
  • Off-sale, where the intoxicating liquor is sold in its original packaging and consumed off the premises from where it is sold, or
  • Temporary sales for 1–4 days by a club or charitable, religious or nonprofit organization.

Businesses that have an intoxicating liquor license do not need an additional license to sell 3.2-percent malt liquor.

Available applications

On-sale 3.2-percent malt liquor licenses are only issued to:

  • Drugstores
  • Restaurants
  • Hotels
  • Clubs
  • Establishments that only sell 3.2-percent malt liquor along with tobacco and soft drinks.

Off-Sale 3.2%​​ Malt Liquor License Application

A club or charitable, religious, or nonprofit organization can apply for a temporary license to sell 3.2-percent malt liquor. A temporary on-sale license can be issued for 1-4 consecutive days. The temporary on-sale license allows 3.2-percent malt liquor to be sold in a school or school building.
