County Road 31 and County Road 74 Corridor Study
County Projects 31-115 and 74-11
Dakota County and the City of Farmington are beginning a corridor study along Denmark Avenue (County Road 31) and 220th Street West (County Road 74). The study includes:
- Denmark Avenue (County Road 31) from 212th Street W. (County Road 50) to 220th Street W. (County Road 74).
- 220th Street West (County Road 74) from Denmark Avenue to Honeysuckle Lane.
The study will evaluate existing site conditions, traffic volumes, area development, crash history and other key factors. This will determine recommended improvements in this area of Farmington.
What is a corridor study?
Corridor studies look at current and future transportation needs. We look at data and get input from the community to find ways to improve safety a nd mobility and meet transportation goals.
Any improvements identified would be considered for potential future construction projects. The county will fund and complete final design and construction of any improvements as part of a separate, future project.
Project objectives
The proposed corridor study will look to:
- Address aging infrastructure
- Improve pedestrian, bicycle and transit accommodations
- Evaluate reconstruction options for the Denmark Avenue (County Road 31) segment
- Evaluate reconstruction options for the 220th Street W. (County Road 74) segment
- Determine a new bridge design for the Denmark Avenue bridge over the Vermillion River
- Evaluate future crossing accommodations for the Lake Marrion Greenway
- Determine a potential school crossing location along Denmark Avenue
The final goal of the study is to identify a preferred design for the segments to plan future projects.
