New Dakota County website improves accessibility
July 10, 2026
Dakota County’s new website improves accessibility and makes finding service information faster.
The website launched July 9 following a two-year project to enhance the county’s online presence. It features clear, task-based navigation organized around real-life needs. The site has a modern, intuitive design that better reflects the county.
The website also offers a more accessible, mobile-friendly experience.
An easy-to-use website is important because it serves as the county’s digital front door. Before residents and taxpayers visit a county building, their first stop is usually online to make appointments or reservations, check our business hours, or confirm the services they need.
The website features about 1,400 pages of county services, including licensing, elections, transportation, social services, recycling, public health and much more. Information is in plain language to supporter faster understanding for users.
The website also has a new address. Instead of www.dakotacounty.us, use dakotacountymn.gov.
The old address still works, but it will automatically redirect users to the new website. The parks and library websites also have new addresses — dakotacountymn.gov/parks and dakotacountymn.gov/library.
Changing the website to a .gov address creates consistency with other government agencies, including other counties in the metro area. Only verified U.S.-based government agencies are allowed to have .gov addresses. This builds trust with the public and enhances security.
The public website is the county’s most-used communications tool. In 2025, there were more than 4.2 million user sessions on the website, totaling almost 7.5 million page views.
