Enjoy firsthand discussions about fascinating books in a variety of genres, with each author bringing their own backgrounds, experiences, knowledge and talents. Meet the Author: Michael MacBride
Join us as Michael MacBride discusses "At the Wake." Achiel Van Slyck was a man of contradictions — a war hero who took pride in his service, but also a vindictive neighbor, a volatile father and a man whose actions shattered lives, including his own. Set against the backdrop of small-town dynamics and spanning decades, the book delves into the messy, often painful process of confronting one's history. Join us as author and historian Meg Gorzycki discusses her new book, “Remember the Main: The Gay Bar That Started a Movement in the Northland.” Hear the story of a generation who found their cause and their community at Jansen’s club. Weaving together oral history, biography, and social critique, Meg Gorzycki chronicles the highs and lows of the local fight for human rights, legal protection, and healthcare for LGBTQ Americans. “Remember the Main” is an engaging profile of a unique community and what its members did to improve lives through resilience, compassion, and belonging—with a few toasts along the way.
