Donating to the Library
Dakota County Library accepts a variety of items for donation.
How to donate items to the library
- To donate your items, bring them to the service desk at any of our 10 library locations during open hours.
- A tax-deductible receipt for your donation can be provided at the desk.
- For large donations (several bags or boxes) please call ahead to your local branch to ensure that they can accept them.
- Do not put donations through the book return.
- All materials should be in good condition.
What types of items are accepted?
- Books
- Puzzles
- VHS tapes
- DVDs/Blu-Rays
- Magazines (current year only)

- Damaged items
- National Geographic magazines
- Textbooks of any kind
- Cassette tapes
- Encyclopedias (individual books or sets)
